Exhibition 2009 ‘Women of the world’ (‘Femmes du monde’)
The theme off the exhibition 2009 is called ‘Women of the world’
Its a homage to all women in the world who have a difficult and hard live because of the fact that they are a woman.
At first I painted three portraits of women. A portrait of a woman of the Samburu tribe in Kenya, another one of a woman of Turkmenistan and at last a painting of three women of India.
After the paintings were finisched I created the furniture.
The Samburu woman.
In ‘dark’ Africa more than 33 % of the people are infected with the aids virus. 80% of all the women that are infected by this virus were infected by there husband or they where forced to have sexual intercourse without their consent and against there will.
In Kenya there are women who started a project named WOFAK (women fighting aids Kenya)
The chair I created is a homage to all the women that stand up and fight against Aids all over Africa.
The caste-system of India.
The caste-system in India is still a big problem for all people who were born in a lowcast or outcast. But for women even more difficult because a man stands always above the women. There are many projects for giving litte boys the possibility to get educated. For girls it is still a problem to get proper education.
I made a cupboard thats expresses the cast-systeem. Althouhg in real life its impossible in my cupboard every person is the same.
This is a homage to all the women that fight for the right for girls education.
The Turkmenistan women
In Turkmenistan it was until 2008 forbidden for women to participate in any political forum. Since ‘Mama-cash’ a Dutch group off women who support all kind off projects run by women, give financial support to a group of women in Turkmenistan one women is now elected and have a seat in the covernement.
This cupboard reflects how difficult it is to live in a country thats been formed by a dictator. People had to have a lot of secrets, there for this cupboard is not so easy to acces.
This is a homage to all the women who are fighting for having the same rights as men.
